How to Switch Photoshop’s Language to English

If you’re using Photoshop in a different language and finding it hard to follow tutorials or menus, you’re not alone.
Many users want to switch Photoshop’s language to English for easier navigation and better compatibility with online guides.
In this quick step-by-step tutorial, you’ll learn exactly how to change the language settings in Adobe Photoshop using the Creative Cloud app.

Heads Up:

  • This doesn’t change the language of an already installed Photoshop.
You may need to reinstall it after switching the language in Creative Cloud.
  • Don’t worry, your files and settings will stay safe!
  • For a more advanced guide, that does not require re-installation go here.

Step 1: Open the Creative Cloud App

  1. To switch Photoshop or any other Adobe Creative Cloud App you first need to look for the Creative Cloud icon in your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
  2. Click to open the Creative Cloud Desktop App.

Step 2: Go to App Preferences

  1. In the top-right corner of the Creative Cloud window, click your profile icon or the three dots.
  2. Choose Preferences from the dropdown.

Step 3: Set English as Your Default Language

  1. In Preferences, go to the Apps tab.
  2. Under App Language, select:
    • English (International) or English (North America) from the dropdown.
    • Or switch Photoshop’s language to any other you prefer. We recommend English to easily follow most online tutorials.

Step 4: Reinstall Photoshop

  1. Close the Preferences window.
  2. In the Creative Cloud app, find Photoshop under Installed Apps.
  3. Click the three dots next to Photoshop and choose Uninstall.
  4. Once uninstalled, click Install to reinstall Photoshop with the new language setting.

Advanced: Force Photoshop to English by Modifying Language Files

Pro Tip:

  • This trick is helpful if Creative Cloud doesn’t let you reinstall or change languages easily.
  • To revert, just change the file name back to .dat.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Close Photoshop
Make sure the app is fully closed before proceeding.
  2. Locate the Language File
Go to your Photoshop installation folder:
    • Windows:
      C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop [version]\Locales\[your_locale]\Support Files
    • macOS:
      Applications/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Locales/[your_locale]/Support Files
  3. Find the Language File
    Look for a file like:
tw10428.dat (this varies depending on your language)
  4. Rename the File
Right-click and rename the file to:
    tw10428.bak
This disables it, forcing Photoshop to load the default fallback, which is usually English.
  5. Restart Photoshop
Launch Photoshop again — it should now display everything in English.
